How to Install a .mrpack File in Minecraft

Step-by-step guide • Modrinth App, launchers, and ZIP conversion

A .mrpack file is Modrinth's modpack format. You can install it directly through the Modrinth App, or convert it to a ZIP for use with other launchers and servers using PackShift.

Method 1: Modrinth App (Easiest)

Official, native support

  1. Download and install the Modrinth App.
  2. Open the app, go to Modpacks, and click Import.
  3. Select your .mrpack file — the app reads the manifest, downloads all mods, and sets up the instance automatically.

Method 2: MultiMC / Prism Launcher (via ZIP)

Convert .mrpack to ZIP, then import

  1. Go to the PackShift converter and upload your .mrpack file.
  2. Enable Download mod files into ZIP and choose your target (Client or Dedicated Server).
  3. Click Convert to ZIP and download the archive.
  4. Open MultiMC or Prism Launcher, click Add Instance → Import, and select the ZIP.

Method 3: CurseForge (via ZIP)

Import ZIP as a custom profile

  1. Convert your .mrpack to ZIP using PackShift.
  2. Open CurseForge, go to Create Custom Profile → Import.
  3. Select the downloaded ZIP and complete setup.

Method 4: Vanilla Launcher / Manual Folder

Extract ZIP into your .minecraft directory

  1. Convert your .mrpack to ZIP using PackShift.
  2. Extract the ZIP into your .minecraft folder (or your server directory).
  3. Launch Minecraft — you need a mod loader (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, or Quilt) installed first; mods then load from mods/, configs from config/.
